Boeing 787 Dreamliner — with 242 people on board crashed into a medical college complex in the Meghaninagar area moments after taking off from the airport on Thursday afternoon.

Indian civil aviation officials said 232 passengers and 12 crew members were on board the plane when it crashed.

Air India Flight 171 was “involved in a tragic accident,” the airline’s chairman said. The plane was due to fly from Ahmedabad to London’s Gatwick Airport.
