According to MLB expert Jon Heyman of the New York Post, the Cubs are still pursuing a trade for one-time All-Star pitcher Mackenzie Gore from the San Diego Padres. While the Cubs have already successfully negotiated a trade with the Washington Nationals, Heyman indicates that another deal for Gore is “ not close .”

MLB.com staff released each team’s likely trade deadline strategy with less than two weeks remaining. Obviously, the Cubs will focus on starting pitching going forward, with the potential of adding bullpen pieces and a third base upgrade.

The Cubs are likely to deal from their position player depth to acquire pitching. That they are showcasing Ballesteros adds intrigue.
