Shaq Thompson has laid out a decade's worth of goodbyes to the Carolina Panthers. This past Monday, the Panthers announced that they will not re-sign linebacker Shaq Thompson. The 30-year-old, who has spent each of his 10 NFL seasons in Carolina, is now set to enter free agency in the coming weeks.
The last remaining Carolina Panther from their 2015 Super Bowl appearance, linebacker Shaq Thompson, is now hitting free agency. The organization announced Monday morning it would be moving in a different direction — one that does not involve the 30-year-old team captain.

Thompson, the linebacker who ranks fourth on the Carolina Panthers’ all-time tackle list, has been informed by the team that it will be moving in another direction at his position. Thompson, 30, will enter NFL free agency.
Thompson, the 25th pick of the 2015 draft by Carolina, was a five-time captain for the team. He had a career-high 135 tackles in 2022 and is fourth on the team's all-time tackle list with 741. He trails only Luke Kuechly (1,092), Thomas Davis (1,077) and Mike Minter (771).
