North Korea has been broadcasting unbearable sounds for months close to its border with the South, in their latest wave of psychological warfare.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - There is a risk North Korea may try to exploit the domestic political turmoil in South Korea and it is in Washington's interest to help resolve the issue, U.S. national security adviser Jake Sullivan said on Friday.

The latest missile test coincided with Takeshi Iwaya’s visit, the first by a Japanese foreign minister in seven years, to Seoul for talks on trilateral cooperation with the US. Mr Iwaya met his South Korean counterpart Cho Tae Yul on Monday. He condemned the North’s nuclear and missile development, and pledged to boost security ties with Seoul.

The U.S. secretary of state aimed to show that his country stood by South Korea as it grapples with a political crisis, and as Donald J. Trump returns to power.

North Korea has not responded to reports of its troops captured or killed by Ukraine forces. It has never publicised the deployment or large shipments of North Korean artillery shells and other weapons sent to Russia to help its war against Ukraine, although they marked the country’s first intervention in a major armed conflict overseas in decades.

President Yoon Suk Yeol, a former prosecutor, used to put people in jail. Now, after his formal arrest, he himself is in a cell, alone.

Yoon was brought into custody about three hours after hundreds of law enforcement officers entered the residential compound in their second attempt to detain him.

The United States on Wednesday reiterated its "firm" support for the South Korean people and appreciated efforts by the Asian country to act in line with its Constitution, after impeached President Yoon Suk Yeol was detained over his botched martial law bid last month.
