Kerala Finance Minister criticizes Central government for denying funds to landslide-hit Wayanad, calling it discriminatory and politically motivated.

Home Affairs MoS Nityanand Rai stated that no current provision under the guidelines for SDRF or NDRF allows for an event to be declared a “national disaster.”

Former Union Minister V. Muraleedharan on Friday (Nov 15) defended the central government's position on not declaring the Wayanad landslide as a national disaster. He criticized the CPM in Kerala for adopting an approach that treats the issue like "turning a goat into a dog.

The state government had sought assistance of Rs 900 crore from the Centre towards the relief and rehabilitation of people affected by the tragedy, which killed over 200 people.
