Minnesota state Rep. Melissa Hortman and her husband were killed, and state Sen. John Hoffman and his wife were wounded in politically motivated shootings early Saturday, Gov. Tim Walz said. Authorities have also identified a suspect who is still at large.

A gunman posing as a police officer killed the senior Democratic state assemblywoman and her husband on June 14, 2025 in an apparent "politically motivated assassination".

Walz said Hoffman and his wife were out of surgery and officials expected them to survive.

The suspect accused of assassinating a Minnesota lawmaker and shooting another this weekend drove to the homes of at least four state politicians as part of a planned killing spree, federal authorities said on Monday.

Authorities said in a news conference Sunday evening that Vance Boelter was not in custody.

The search for Boelter was the “largest manhunt in the state's history,” Brooklyn Park Police Chief Mark Bruley said.

Boelter is accused of the targeted shootings killing Democratic lawmaker Melissa Hortman and her husband and injuring Minnesota State Sen. John Hoffman and his wife early Saturday morning.
