The city acknowledged that the change could make it more difficult for some families to visit detained loved ones.

“After careful consideration, the City of Glendale has decided to end its agreement with U.S. Homeland Security/ICE to house federal immigration detainees,” the city said in a statement posted online. “This local decision reflects our core values: public safety, transparency, and community trust.”

The city of Glendale, Calif., revoked a long-standing agreement with Homeland Security and Immigration and Customs and Enforcement under which its Police Department holds immigration detainees on their behalf.
