KJ Apa has been lined up to play the late Sublime frontman Bradley Nowell in a new biopic. The 27-year-old actor is set to star in a film about the musician who died aged 28 from a heroin overdose in 1996.

Original Sublime members Bud Gaugh and Eric Wilson are executive producing along with Nowell's son Jakob, who has been serving as the band's lead singer since Rome Ramirez left, and widow Troy (née Dendekker) on behalf of the late vocalist's estate.

The forthcoming Sublime biopic feature from Sony ‘s 3000 Pictures has found its Bradley Nowell. KJ Apa is attached to star as the late singer for the movie that has Justin Chon set to direct. The untitled project is currently in development, with Chon working on the screenplay with Bobby Hundreds following an initial draft from Chris Mundy.

The Long Beach, California based band- which integrated elements of ska, punk and reggae into its material - rose to fame in the mid-1990s.
