The Tuesday evening earthquake rattled middle Georgia roughly 10 hours after a 2.6 earthquake in northwest Georgia in Chattooga County. Although it was a shallow earthquake, there were a few reports of shaking or damage, both in Georgia and northeast Alabama, according to the USGS Shakemap.

A minor earthquake occurred at 7 a.m. Tuesday just over the Alabama state line, according to the United States Geological Survey. The earthquake was detected roughly 5 miles north of Menlo, GA, which is less than half an hour away from Fort Payne.
