The last-ditch plan marked Missouri’s most expansive proposal to keep the teams since Jackson County voters in April 2024 rejected a stadiums sales tax. After that vote, Kansas lawmakers approved a sweeping proposal to offer supercharged bonds to finance up to 70% of the cost of new stadiums for one or both teams.

The Missouri Senate adjourned for its regular session on Wednesday, cutting short Governor Mike Kehoe’s plan to incentivize the Kansas City Chiefs and Royals to stay in the Show-Me State.

Some legislators in both chambers objected to the move since the House unexpectedly failed to pass the part of the budget funding capital improvement projects across the state last week.
