Firefighters have made enough progress on a massive wildfire burning in Ocean County for officials to fully reopen both the Garden State Parkway and Route 9 on Wednesday morning. In addition, all evacuation orders in Lacey have been lifted and residents are allowed to return home as the fire in the Greenwood Forest Wildfire Management Area in Lacey and Ocean townships burns.

A massive wildfire in Ocean County that scorched more than 8,500 acres is sending smoke across parts of the tri-state area Wednesday.

A wildfire in the Greenwood Forest Wildlife Management Area near Barnegat Township, New Jersey, has burned 8,500 acres and is only 10% contained. The Jones Road Wildfire, which erupted Tuesday, prompted the evacuation of thousands of residents and forced the closure of a major stretch of highway as thick smoke drifted across the Jersey Shore.
