The US Department of Agriculture has suspended the transport of live cattle, horses and bison through ports of entry along the border with Mexico for at least two weeks. It’s part of an effort to curb the spread of New World screwworm,

The U.S. has temporarily banned livestock imports from Mexico due to a rapid spread of screw worm disease, potentially affecting meat prices.

The screwworm is a larva of the Cochliomyia hominivorax fly that can invade the tissues of any warm-blooded animal, including humans.
